This statement explains how 72 Films Limited (acting as the ‘data controller’) processes personal data specifically for the casting, selection and filming process of our Tourette’s syndrome documentary series. 1. WHAT PERSONAL INFORMATION WE COLLECT

By engaging in the casting and filming process, we may collect:

• Identity & Contact Data: Full name, date of birth/age, sex/gender, occupation, home address, location, phone number, email address, and social media handles.
• Biographical & Living Circumstances: Details about your family life, living arrangements, support networks, and daily routines (e.g. schooling or employment challenges).
• Health Data (Special Category): A detailed description of your or your child’s experience with Tourette syndrome (including assessment or diagnosis status), medical history, and mental health history.
• Involuntary/Unexpected Data: We do not intentionally ask for information regarding religion, beliefs, or sexual orientation, but recognise these may naturally arise during the casting process.
• Third-Party Data: Information you provide regarding family members or carers. (Please ensure they are aware you are sharing this information).

2. HOW WE USE THIS DATA (OUR CASTING & FILMING JOURNEY)

Your information will be used progressively through the following casting and filming stages:

• Initial Exploratory Review: To assess general editorial suitability and understand your diagnosis journey and support network. These initial conversations do not constitute a commitment to participate.
• In-Depth Research Calls: Shortlisted applicants will participate in deeper research calls. For anyone under 18, a parent or guardian must be present. Calls will only be recorded with your permission and are stored securely on our protected Microsoft SharePoint system.
• Welfare & Safeguarding Assessments: To ensure participation is safe, informed, and manageable, shortlisted contributors may undergo further checks. These can include social media footprint reviews, DBS/safeguarding checks, psychological consultations or assessments, and formal health declarations. These are used to support you, not to exclude anyone based on their condition.
• Casting Minors: We ensure meticulous due care is taken over the welfare, dignity, and best interests of minors. We work closely with parents/guardians to assess risks and safeguard child participants, ensuring they understand the process in an age-appropriate way.

3. OUR LAWFUL BASIS FOR PROCESSING

• Standard Personal Data: We process this under our Legitimate Interests to effectively, safely, and properly manage our casting process and choose appropriate contributors, as well as taking pre-contractual steps if you are chosen to participate.
• Health & Special Category Data: We process your Tourette’s experience, medical history, and safeguarding data based on your Explicit Consent.
• Note on Broadcast: While consent governs this casting application phase, please note that for the actual creation, distribution, and broadcast of the final programme, the production relies on the Special Purposes Exemption (Article 85 UK GDPR / Schedule 2 Part 5 Data Protection Act 2018) concerning journalistic, artistic, and freedom of expression protections in the public interest.

4. CONFIDENTIALITY & DATA SHARING

Any sensitive welfare, health, or safeguarding information gathered will be kept strictly confidential. It will only be shared on a strict need-to-know basis with senior production staff. Where necessary for welfare and representation validation, we may consult closely with our specialist partners at Tourettes Action or ITV’s compliance teams.
