We Are Newcastle United offers unique insight and behind the scenes access to the Premier League club during the 2022/23 season – one of its most pivotal in decades.
Newcastle United Football Club is one of the most recognised in the world. With its stadium, St James’ Park, the beating heart of the city, its passionate, die-hard Geordie fans have stood by their club despite its recent tumultuous history. But in 2021, the club was taken over by the richest owners in world football. Having spent over £300 million to buy the club, they set about making huge changes. They appointed a new Head Coach, Eddie Howe, and made a bold statement of intent by signing several big name players.
But now, in their first full season, fans’ expectations are rocketing and the new owners and Head Coach have much to do to transform the club’s fortunes. The series follows life at the club both on and off the pitch, from boardroom to changing room, to explore the decisions being made that the club hope will turn them into a regular top four side, challenging the elite clubs of English football. With access to star players including Kieran Trippier, Callum Wilson, Dan Burn and Bruno Guimarães, alongside fans who hope their club’s fortunes are changing, we follow the story of this dramatic season that sees the club negotiating game-changing commercial and transfer deals, playing at Wembley in their first major final in 24 years and attempting to qualify for the Champions League.
